The Magic of Watercolor
Beginner and Intermediate Level
Saturday, January 7, 10 AM- 4PM
Workshop Setting: Newfound Art Studio, Bristol
$60
Workshop Description: The Magic of Watercolor
Beginner and Intermediate Levels. The excitement of learning
how to bring this media to poetic levels of color transparency and
the suggestive nature of watercolor media becomes the major focus
for this workshop. Watercolor techniques of wash, dry brush, wet
on wet painting, glazing, and lifting are demonstrated and explored
toward a working knowledge of the magical effects that can be gained
through practice. Workshop participants also learn basic principles
of color mixing, and composing with the use of the white paper. Illustrations
of the work of master artists provide inspiration and examples of
various watercolor painting styles, which can later be studied. The
development of each individual's creative process and self-expression
remains the overall goal.

supports and painting tools as various painting techniques are explored.
Intermediate students will be challenged to further adventures in
more expressive interpretations and compositional principles. The
principles of art making with a strong focus on composition, color
theory, and spatial considerations will be addressed. Various subject
matter will be used for compositional studies.

Workshop Setting: Newfound Art Studio, Bristol

Workshop Description: Introduction to Printmaking
(Drawing Experience Not Required)
Enjoy
the rich effects from the simplest and least technical of printmaking
techniques, using foam plates and water-based printmaking inks. Explore
the beauty of layering color, unique texture effects, and the endless
variations that can be achieved from a single, simple plate design.
Learn how to use common “tools” to incise the plate,
create texture, and how to apply color for harmony or an expressive
palette. These techniques can be effectively used to create art forms
from landscape/still life prints to designs for greeting cards. After
this workshop, you will be able to continue printmaking on your own
as this process does not use a printing press.

Beginning / Intermediate
Drawing
Everyone can learn to draw well with the right practice
techniques. The secret is learning a new way of “seeing,” and how
to coordinate the hand with the eye. Workshop participants are introduced
to the technique of drawing descriptive contour lines, and the use
of various drawing media through demonstration and practice. The
major art concepts of positive versus negative shapes, descriptive
value, light, shadow, and space are also introduced and explored.
Participants become aware of some of the ways that art elements can
be used to affect compositional harmony and expressiveness. Both
beginning students and those with some experience will be individually
assisted to reach higher levels of drawing practice, competence and
enjoyment.
Workshop fee does not include most supplies. Basic Supply List will
be sent upon request registration.
